There are many great fingerstyle guitar players such as Leo Kottke, Doyle Dykes, Chet Atkins, Richard Smith and Tommy Emmanuel to name just a few. One of the great fingerstyle players and teachers is Grammy Award Winner Mark Hanson. Mark has authored numerous books and videos. Another favorite is John Standefer, the versatile 2002 National Fingerstyle Champion and 2004 Home of the Legends Champion. They're all superb fingerstyle players!
Chet was one of the driving forces behind popularizing this type of guitar playing. Many of the great fingerstyle players acknowledge him as the master. He is honored every year in Nashville at the Chet Atkins appreciation society convention where hundreds of guitar players come to play music and honor Chet. The past couple of events have showcased the playing of Tommy Emmanuel who is one of the outstanding entertainers on the planet. If you haven't heard his music you should pick up a couple of his CD's. Speaking of great performances, check out "One More Car, One More Rider". This has to be some of Clapton's best work and he's backed up by outstanding musicians.
